Thursday August 23rd

Image
Unfortunately, I do not have any pics from Thursday. We drove to Sisters with a last minute change to our trip. We were able to meet up with some family there and BBQd together that night. We are now back home.

Wednesday August 22nd

Image
On Wednesday, we backtracked a bit to Newport and took in the aquarium. Very impressive. I guess there are two there, and from reviews of another couple, we took in the right one. Our weather cleared up and we got a great sunset back at the beach.

Tuesday August 21st

Image
Tuesday we drove further up the coast to Lincoln City, where we would stay for a couple days. We did see the Sea Lion Caves. This is a view from the entrance to the caves. There is an elevator which takes you down more than 200 ft. We both had our binnoculars along which was helpful for seeing the sea lions clearly.

Monday August 20th

Image
Monday we drove up the shore from Cresent City, CA to Bandon, OR. Above is Whale rock and below is Face rock.

Sunday August 19th

Image
We woke up to a very wet camp Sunday morning on the Rogue River. We packed up, went out for breakfast, and drove down the Redwood Highway. We walked some interpretive trails in the trees. The giants provided some great shelter from the rain. We ended our day in Cresent City walking and hiking in areas on the shore.

Saturday August 18th

Image
We drove around Crater Lake to start out our day. The boat tour with the drop off at Wizzard Island was unavailable due to a broken boat. We then decided to hike Mt Scott to the still functioning lookout tower. The hike was 5 miles round trip with 1250 in elevation. It was a nice hike, the weather was cool, perfect for exerting on the way up, just a bit chilly initially on the way down.

The dogs love the woods

Bert hikes on trail just beyond the summit in the Trinities. Ernie swims at Big Rainbow Lake, then appreciates the view from a log.

Backpacking the Trinities

Image
We hiked into the Trinitie's this weekend. It's a quick trip that isn't as challenging as we would normally look for at this time of summer, but air quality and fire proximity led us to choose this area. The weather was quite warm. The views were great, but hazy.

Canoe camping without a splash

Image
Larry and the boys go for a spin. We took a wrong turn and found a young male moose, the boys were quiet and we kept our distance. Luckily he looked right at me for a photo!

canoeing the 4th

Image
Ernie's first trip in the canoe went well. He jumped out once to swim a long distance with us. He never quite figured out how we could help him back in without needing to swim to shore after a bit. Oh well. We didn't swamp, and that's the best news! Bert explored on shore mostly, but he did some swimming as well.

Hiking Alice Lake to Farley Lake loop

Jen summitting at snowyside pass. Much less snow right now than typical for the time of year. Mary hiking up trail. Camp view from Alice Lake.

Bench Lakes

The top picture is the view for much of our hike, the middle picture is the view from our camping spot, and the third is the dogs relaxing after a day working out in the mountains.

Memorial Day Weekend

Image
We hiked near GrandJean campground. This is the first place Ernie quickly chewed through his leash. It took about 3 seconds. The new tree growth in the area is amazing! They were over 3 feet tall and thick!

Skiing Grand Targhee

Image
We skii'd Grand Targhee a full day of about 4 hours on Friday, and a half day of 3 hours on Saturday. The mountain was less challenging than Jackson Hole, but the snow was far superior! We had some great turns both days with freshies both days!

Skiing Jackson Hole

Image
These are the views from our one day of sunshine! What a nice day, good snow, and challenging runs! We skii'd about 4 hours that first day, and I think we skii'd the majority of the mountain.

The Tetons

Image
The sun came out only for Thursday, and we drove by the majestic mountains in time for a good pic!

Cabin in Jackson

Image
We recently traveled to Jackson, WY, for a ski trip and catch up with friends from MN. We got this little cabin, and it was fabulous! This is at The Cowboy Village in Jackson. We arrived there Wed, visited with Phillip and Lora (from the Duluth area) on Wed and Thurs nights, and did some skiing at Jackson Hole as well as Grand Targhee. The timing was great, so was the snow!

Labor Day Bert

Image
Bert boy loved his camping trip, and the lucky little boy got a new bed for more comfort!

Baker Lake Hike Labor Day Weekend

Image
This was a nice hike in the Ketchum area. It was 2 miles and 880 feet from the trailhead to the lake. The trail was busier as the day progressed. At a good pace, it was 45 minutes up, 33 minutes down, and time spent going around the lake plus a picnic at it. The far end of the lake was a bit more technical with the scree (which I do not know how to spell). Bert wasn't fond of this section, but boy is he ever a trooper! Bert then cooled off in the lake and took in all the sounds. Surprising he didn't catch any fish. The cut throat trout were plentiful, and within 2 feet of the shore.

Summer Wildflowers

The flowers were plentiful this year, and so pretty.
